A 12-year-old boy with special needs is in hospital after falling out of a 'white knuckle' ride at the Camelot Theme Park in Chorley, Lancashire.

He was airlifted to the Wigan Royal Infirmary after plunging from the Excalibur 2 - one of the park's most popular rides - but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A witness told the Lancashire Evening Post that he saw the boy 'hanging' from the ride.

A spokesman for the park told the Daily Mail: 'At this stage we do not know the full extent of the injuries sustained and our thoughts are with the young boy and his family.

'Until we have more information to hand, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment.'

A police and Health and Safety Executive investigation is under way.
