Tourist ferry runs aground as captain gets stuck in the toilet

An island-hopping tourist ferry has run aground in Finland while its captain was stuck in the loo.

According to coastguards, the ferry crashed into a rock near the shore of Finland's capital city, Helsinki.

Officials explained that the captain had got stuck in the toilet because of a jammed rock, and had yelled for help, but by the time he was freed it was too late for the ferry.

Jan Sundell, head of the investigation, told the Daily Mail: 'He was stuck in the toilet. As soon as the staff member got the door open, it was too late.'

None of the 54 passengers on board were seriously injured, with some suffering bruises.

Coastguards have said they are investigating whether the captain's actions amounted to criminal endangerment.
