A pregnant woman taking an afternoon nap in her tent had to be airlifted to hospital after being run over by the campsite owner on his mini tractor.

The accident happened at the Newpark Holiday Park at Port Eynon on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales.

The mother-of-two was taken to Morriston Hospital with serious leg injuries but her unborn baby was unharmed. Campsite owner David Newland was also treated for a heart condition by ambulance crews at the scene.

Mr Newland was trying to jump start the family car with the 4x4 utility buggy when it suddenly took off, his wife Lynda told the Daily Mail.

"It was a freak accident. It just took off - my husband didn't know anyone was inside the tent," she said. "The gods must have been looking down but my husand is still in shock."

The campsite buggy, a John Deere Gator, was being examined yesterday.

A spokesman for Wales Air Ambulance Service said: "A vehicle that was involved in jump-starting a car went over a tent with a 32-year-old pregnant femaile inside."

The Newlands, who have been running the campsite for the last 10 years, have given the woman's husband and their two young daughters a chalet to stay in while she is in hospital.
