Video: Meet BMW's electric future

Updated

While the current sales figures suggest consumers are about as interested in electric cars as they are in tube TVs, BMW is convinced the revolution is coming and last month established the i sub-brand to structure its assault on the fledgling segment.

As we've seen, the initial model line-up will feature the i3, a compact all-electric urban runaround with a 100 mile range, and the i8, a 349bhp four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid sports car capable of 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and fuel economy of 104mpg.
