Firefighters have been battling to contain a wildfire raging on the holiday island for the second day in a row.
Greek authorities have been working on more than 20 fronts, near the villages of Lakones, Doukades and Kombitsi, with dozens of firefighters, 29 trucks and four water-bombing planes in action.
It is not uncommon for Greece to be hit by fires in its dry summer months, which can reach ferocious temperatures, and, in recent years. these blazes have led to the destruction of thousands of acres of forest and sometimes entire villages.
In early July 2011, fires brokes out across Greece's islands, with the hardest hit being forest areas on Zakynthos where wildfires ravaged the countryside.
