George Osborne has joined his family on a luxurious holiday in Hollywood - at a £1000-a-night hotel.

Mr C Beverly Hills is a new hotel that's already a haunt of celebrities and movie executives. The cheapest rooms start from £175 a night in low season, but guests can pay more than £1,000 a night for a suite overlooking downtown LA and the Hollywood Hills.

According to the Mirror, the Chancellor flew out from London on Friday to meet up with his wife Frances and their children, Luke,10, and Liberty, eight. The whole family were spotted enjoying a day trip to Disneyland after his arrival.

The Osbornes - whose family business is the upmarket wallpaper company Osborne and Little - will be able to take advantage of the pool in cabanas with 42" screens and waiters serving cocktails. There's also £1-- Swedish massages on offer, or hotel limo trips to shopping hotspots on Rodeo Drive.

The Chancellor's holiday comes at the same time as PM David Cameron heads to Tuscany, and Nick Clegg enjoys a trip to Spain, leaving Foreign Secretary William Hague as the most senior minister left in Britain.

George's choice of hotel might rankle with some as recent figures show Britain's economy is struggling to recover.
