Qualifying: Vettel hits back by taking pole

Updated

Despite all the prequalifying omens in Hungary, Sebastian Vettel has taken yet another pole position. Right up to the last round of qualifying, Lewis Hamilton had been making the biggest impression, but ultimately it was the reigning champion who set the fastest time of 1:19.815. So Hamilton had to settle for second on the grid after looking like the odds-on favourite up to the final run.

One other surprise outcome was that Fernando Alonso could only manage fifth as Jenson Button and Felipe Massa booked their places on the second row. Alonso starts alongside sixth-placed Mark Webber who had been struggling with his KERS.
