British man in coma after falling from Ibiza holiday balcony

A young British man has been left fighting for his life after plummeting from the balcony of a third-floor apartment while on holiday in Ibiza.

Samuel McCaugel, 23, is in a coma at the Can Misses hospital following the accident that happened at 7.45am in San Antonio.

The circumstances surrounding the fall are unknown, but the news comes just a week after a young British woman, Jodie Taylor, 25, lost her life when she fell from a third-floor balcony in the same resort.

More than a dozen young holidaymakers, several of them Britons, have fallen from balconies in Ibiza and next-door Majorca this summer.

Many were involved in a dangerous game, dubbed by Spaniards as 'balconing', in which they were clambering from one balcony to another while drinking.

The popularity of the craze started last year, when several tourists were killed or seriously injured as they jumped from their rooms to try to land in swimming pools below.
