How spending watchdog blew £3,000 on bespoke fish 'n' chips

If things weren't so tight financially and the Government hadn't declared an age of austerity where they put themselves in the position of having to probe the way they spend our money, you have to wonder whether we'd even have known about the horrendous waste that has gone inside the Audit Commission, ironically set up to be our spending watchdog.

But as it's facing the scrapheap, even more outrageous stories are emerging, with the latest being the £12,000 spend on parties which included serving specially-tailored menus including fish 'n' chips in custom-printed paper cones.
