With the recent sizzling heatwave sweeping America, animal programmes staff at Brookfield Zoo have devised a fun way to keep the animals cool: giant ice lollies.

In addition to having water pools in the exhibits and giving baths to the animals, several have been treated to huge blocks of ice made at the zoo, filled with their favourite goodies - a variety of meat and fruit.

Polar bear Hudson enjoyed a huge ice block filled with a mix of treats such as raisins, peanuts, pears and other fruit.

The African lions Isis and Zenda , meanwhile, tucked into several large ice blocks, some filled with chunky meat.

And they say it's a dog's life...
