Mercedes reveals 'most powerful' C Class

Mercedes has revealed that the new C63 AMG Black Series will be the most powerful C Class ever and will cost in the region of £100,000 when it goes on sale at the beginning of 2012.

Like its forebears, the SLK, SL and CLK Black Series, the new C63 is focused on producing a stupendous amount of power from a track-tailored vehicle with aggressive styling to match.
This comes in the form of muscled wheel arches, flared bonnet air intakes, a black front splitter and side skirts, and air openings in front and behind the rear wheels. The extent of the reworking on the C63 Black is best summed up in the fact that the rear wings have been flared by as much as 42mm on each side thanks to those fat tyres and the extra width afforded to the bigger rear track, which has been increased by 79mm.

The wheels are lightweight 19-inch alloys that weigh 11 kilos less than conventionally made ones of the same size and come in a titanium grey.

The highlight of the car is undoubtedly the engine though, and the 6.3-litre engine produces a massive 510bhp, more than 50bhp more than the normal C63AMG. As a result, the naturally aspirated V8 unit should take the C63 Black to 62mph in just 4.2 seconds. It sends power to the wheels via a seven-speed automatic sports transmission that comes with a Sports and Race Start function. The suspension is race inspired as well, and is in a motorsport style coil-over setup.

Inside, the C63 Black comes with AMG bucket seats and performance steering wheel, both featuring a DINAMICA microfibre that also appears on the door linings. AMG logos feature on the stainless steel door sills, while there is discreet 'Black Series' detailing on the boot and the dash.

A 20 CD radio with Bluetooth and hands free is also included in the standard specification, of which more information will be revealed closer to the car's launch. What have been confirmed are two packs - the Track Package and the AMG Aerodynamic Package.

The track pack adds stickier tyres, designed especially for the C63 Black and an active rear-axle transmission cooling, while the Aerodynamic Package features add-ons for the front bumper and a fixed, carbon rear spoiler.
