Struggling shoppers switch to supermarket own-brand items

Four in five shoppers struggling to cope with food price rises are being forced to change their food shopping habits according to new research from Mintel. More are switching to budget food stores and supermarket own-brand budget products in an attempt to beat the squeeze, while one in three families is cutting back on food like fruit, vegetables and organic products.

The research comes amid news that grocery price inflation is expected to continue to rise throughout 2011, even above 5%.
