Fiat Punto Evo gets Abarth Essesse treatment
Fiat's performance arm, Abarth, has released the ultimate Essesse version of its Punto Evo supermini.
The performance pack increases the car's power to 180bhp from a tuned version of the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that appears in lesser power versions throughout the Punto Evo's range. The standard Abarth Punto Evo produces 165bhp.
However Fiat says that the boost in power can even be retro fitted to a customer's existing Abarth, so long as it is less than 12 months old and has covered fewer than 12,500 miles.
Whether fitted at the time of sale or later, the Essesse kit increases the Abarth Punto Evo's performance to bring a 0-62mph time of 7.5 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than the standard Abarth. The top speed is increased by a marginal 1mph to 134mph.
The other noticeable changes are to the brakes, which now feature Brembo front callipers, while the overall ride height is lowered thanks to uprated Abarth springs and Koni FSD dampers front and rear.
Thanks to the Punto Evo's Multiair engine technology, the car retains its impressive economy, with a 47.1mpg figure and a CO2 output of 142g/km.
The Essesse kit adds around £3,000 to the £16,852 cost of a normal Abarth Punto Evo, with the final price differing depending on labour costs.
