Mercedes is the target for di Resta, says manager
Paul di Resta's manager has admitted that Mercedes is the preferred choice for his charge, Formula One rookie, Paul di Resta.
Speaking to Autoblog minutes before the start of the British Grand Prix, Anthony Hamilton confirmed there was interest from other teams, but Mercedes was the hope for the 25 year old.
"I'd like to think that's where he's going to end up," Hamilton said. "[Mercedes team boss] Norbert [Haug] has been very supportive for a long time and Paul is the current DTM champion, so I think it would be a good thing, it would be nice to complete the circle but you never know in this sport.
"We've got interest from a couple of other teams, but our preference is with Mercedes if an opportunity arose and Paul was keen on it."
Asked whether that may happen next season, Hamilton had a definite view.
"I hope not because I'm a great believer in doing your education and also loyalty. Force India gave Paul an opportunity to come into Formula One, he's here on merit, not because he bought a seat and they deserve to have a good couple of years out of Paul and that's what we're trying to do - unless something untoward happens and Force India says it's ok, we understand, you can go."
With the prospect of a wet race at Silverstone, Hamilton hoped the weather would stay fine for Di Resta.
"I would rather it stayed dry for Paul because he's still learning but at the end of the day it is what it is. These guys have grown up racing in the wet, racing in the sun, so I don't think it will make any difference to how they apply themselves.
