Dizzee Rascal faces lifetime ban from BA for abusing stewardess

Updated

Rap star Dizzee Rascal was escorted off a plane at London's Heathrow airport yesterday after allegedly hurling abuse at a stewardess. As a result, he could now face a life ban from British Airways.

The singer, whose hit Bonkers was a number one hit, was escorted off the flight by police who had been called in to deal with the disturbance.

Dizzee was on his way to Portugal to the Optimus Alive! festival, but he was unable to play there as a result of the incident.

It seems that tempers flared when the plane sat waiting on the Airbus 320 for more than an hour due to technical problems.

Dizzee was sitting with friends and band members when he is alleged to have become angry.

An eyewitness said: "Dizzee was getting very angry it was taking so long to take off. Then he threw a tantrum with staff, and passengers were told something was wrong.

"After the incident his band members were still on the flight. They started kicking off too, shouting that they couldn't play without him because he'd been thrown off."

An airport source said: "The singer was verbally abusive to staff. This will not be tolerated. He was taken off the aircraft and was not allowed to continue his route on any other British Airways plane.

"There will be an internal investigation and a decision will be taken as to whether he will ever be allowed to fly with British Airways again."

Dizzee Rascal's spokesman claimed "unprofessional behaviour" by one of the cabin crew "led to a confrontation whereby mutual parties agreed Dizzee leave the plane," adding: "he is very disappointed not to be able to perform and apologises to his fans."

Following the incident, the plane finally took off nearly three hours late.
