Hamilton hoping for rain

It turned out to be an 'interesting' Saturday for McLaren at Silverstone. They thought they had scored a success in the dispute concerning the blown diffuser but, to their horror, then discovered in qualifying that they had somehow lost pace.

The biggest disappointment for McLaren will be to see Lewis Hamilton so far back on the grid. For most of qualifying, Hamilton had seemed to relish the changeable weather, but in the final segment, things didn't go his way. "In Q3, we fitted a set of used options for the first run when the others were on new tyres," he revealed. "That hurt our performance. When we changed to new tyres for the final run, it started to rain, so I wasn't able to improve my time."
