Legal aid for prisoners soars to £25m

Ambulance chasers, savvier inmates and higher solicitor costs have all helped inflate the UK's legal aid bill to £25m, almost a trebling of what it was in 2006 and a doubling compared to the 2007 bill. Prisoners' lawyers made the equivalent of nearly £100,000 for each working day of the year.
