One in five abandons car due to high running costs

High fuel prices have led to many drivers cutting their speed or driving less, but some have taken even more drastic action by giving up their motor altogether.

As prices sit around 136p a litre, a survey has shown that 14 percent of drivers have ditched their cars, and a further seven percent have switched from four-wheels to two and are using a motorbike or a scooter instead.
