Renaultsport unveils quickest Megane yet
Renault has revealed what it describes as its quickest car ever in the shape of the new limited edition Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy.
Tasked with competing against the R-badged cars at Volkswagen, the French manufacturer's tuning division has upped the standard model's output by 15bhp (hence the 265 moniker) and increased torque output by the same amount.
However, while that means the Trophy's 0-62mph time drops by 0.1 second to 6 flat, the car should be not mistaken for a spiritual successor to the riotous R26R.
The new model is no stripped-out street fighter. No doubt influenced by its intended rivals, the car retains all the usual Megane features, even adding Recaro seats and a Renaultsport Monitor which provides real-time acceleration and g-force data.
Aside from the retuned 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the Trophy remains largely unaltered underneath, too. The Cup chassis hasn't been touched (admittedly it's already superb) and only the F1-inspired Bridgestone Potenza's on each corner distinguish it from standard.
Arguably the car's finest addition is the free access to an entire year of Renaultsport track days. With Silverstone and Brands Hatch included in the 2012 calendar, it's an enticing package to entice those hovering between the Megane and the Scirocco R.
The 265 Trophy, available in either Liquid Yellow or black metallic, is available to order from June 20th for £27,820. Don't wait too long if you're tempted; just 50 examples will be coming to the UK.
