Hamilton: Top teams closer together
Lewis Hamilton may have got the better of Sebastian Vettel in free practice, but he still ended up second best on the day – to Fernando Alonso. However, that wasn't going to diminish the McLaren driver's delight. "It was fantastic today," said the former champion. "I love this track and had an exciting time out there."
Furthermore, he was feeling happy with the balance of his MP4-26: "I had no problems with the balance of the car. It feels absolutely OK, no matter how much fuel I have on board." Broadly speaking, he sees the top teams coming closer together: "We've narrowed the gap on Red Bull, but Ferrari are also looking quick. None of that matters, though, because I'm aiming to win here. So you'll see me doing a lot of pushing."
He barely deployed DRS in free practice: "I didn't use DRS at all with a full tank. We didn't really get the system going today, but that could change in qualifying."
