One Indy 500 hopeful has admitted she is 'lucky to be here' after crashing in practice for the race at more than 220mph and walking away from her burning car.

Simona de Silvestro suffered second degree burns on her right hand after the violent crash in her Dallar-Honda at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, skidding alongside the outside wall before rolling several times, dumping oil and fuel onto the track which then caught fire.
