Fake speed sign lands hundreds of motorists with fines
Pranksters in Bradford have left hundreds of motorists with speeding fines after they put up a fake 40mph sign in a 30mph zone.
The main road running through Wyke is monitored by a speed camera which was said to be going off like 'a strobe disco light' as drivers unwittingly exceeded the speed limit.
Workers have now removed the phoney sign on the A641, but local residents reported the camera working overtime during the few days it was up.
Engineers responsible for road safety at Bradford Council were less than impressed, condemning the apparent joke as 'crassly irresponsible'.
Almost certainly angrier will be those caught in the camera's flash as they innocently obeyed the speed limit. Anyone affected should appeal to the local safety camera partnership.
