Honda releases official pics of hot CR-Z
Honda has revealed the first official pictures of the CR-Z Mugen - a high performance variant of its eco-centric hybrid coupe.
The car retains the standard model's 1.5-litre engine and electric motor, but Mugen's European division has boosted the power to almost 200bhp with the addition of a supercharger.
Honda's tuner has also made significant modifications to the chassis to improve handling, and claims as much as 50kg has been shaved from the CR-Z's original kerbweight.
While the Mugen version is aimed at delivering increased performance, the team responsible has clearly not lost sight of the car's position as an economical coupe.
"Early fuel consumption tests have also been encouraging," says Colin Whittamore from Mugen Euro.
"We've retained the three driving modes from the standard car and economy ranges from 50+mpg in 'eco' mode to mid-30 mpg when tapping into the supercharged power in a special 'Mugen' mode."
Sounds almost too good to be true doesn't it? Well, it is. The CR-Z Mugen remains a one-off at present, with limited production still only slim possibility. Cross your fingers.
