Holidaymaker and dog fall 200ft down cliff - and survive
A 53-year-old man and his dog have had a 'remarkable' escape from death after falling 200ft from a cliff top in Yorkshire.
Police said it was 'absolutely remarkable' that the man was not killed in the fall.
The accident happened at Little Cliff, near the village of Cloughton, on Monday afternoon when the unnamed man fell on the coastline while trying to rescue his pet.
He was airlifted in an RAF helicopter to Scarborough General Hospital where he was treated for a broken leg and wrist.
The man's dog also survived the fall.
Inspector Bruce Prendergast told the Daily Mail: 'It is absolutely remarkable that this man has survived a 200ft fall down the cliff face and escaped with injuries that are serious but not life-threatening.'
'It is testament to the hard work and bravery of the coastguard and helicopter crew, who managed to extract the man from the bottom of the cliff in difficult circumstances, that he and his dog survived.'
