California Kate: Royal couple to make official visit to LA this summer

Updated

Prince William and his new princess Kate are set to make an official visit to California in July, straight after their tour of Canada.

The trip to America will be the first time William has visited in an official capacity, and the first time Kate has ever been to the country at all.

According to a spokesman from St James' Palace, the newlyweds will be Stateside for three days, from 8 to 10 July, and are expected to spend most of their time in LA doing charity work.

The aide said: 'This was always planned to come straight after the Canada tour. It's not been tacked on as an afterthought.

'The reason they're going to California is to undertake some engagements involving the Duke of Cambridge's charities.'

It's thought California's governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be there to welcome the royal couple.

And, through his charity roles, William and Kate are set to be wined and dined by big stars in Hollywood. The Duke is president of the Football Association, and is likely to enjoy dinner with Victoria and David Beckham, who were guests at the royal wedding.

And it doesn't end there - Bafta is also expected to host a glittering garden party for Hollywood stars in July, although sources couldn't confirm whether the royal couple would definitely be attending.

Although St James's Palace has yet to disclose a detailed itinerary, the couple may include the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Yosemite National Park on their tour.

William and Kate will kick off their first official overseas trip as a married couple by touring Canada from 30 June to 8 July, where they're expected to take in trips to Alberta, Prince Edward Island, the Northwest Territories, Quebec, and the National Capital Region.

The newlyweds are also expected to find time for their much-talked-about honeymoon before the trip, which they delayed after the wedding, heading home to Angelsey for the weekend instead.

William is reportedly planning to treat his bride to a luxurious 10-day escape to a £4000-a-night retreat in the Seychelles.

Sounds like a fabulous start to married life!
