Mercedes reveals SLS AMG Roadster
It might be six months away from launch, but Mercedes has revealed virtually undisguised images and details of the convertible version of the SLS Roadster.
Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, gone are the trademark gull wing doors and fixed roof to be replaced by conventional doors and a folding cloth roof.
Other changes to increase strength include a new cross member to support the dashboard and additional bracing around the window frames and transmission tunnel. Even with the lack of a roof, the SLS Roadster body shell weighs just five pounds more than the Coupe.
It might have a soft top but the SLS Roadster is still capable of 197mph and the fabric roof can be raised or lowered at speeds of up to 31mph.
We look forward to seeing the finished car this September.
