Button wants to finish F1 career at McLaren
Jenson Button wants to see out the rest of his F1 career with McLaren and admits one of the reasons he joined the team was because he wanted to drive alongside Lewis Hamilton.
The 2009 world champion jumped ship from Brawn to McLaren last year on a three-year deal and it seems McLaren are keen to begin discussing an extension to that contract sooner rather than later.
"I'm driving for one of the best teams in the world. It's a position that most drivers would love to be in and I've worked very hard for it."
He knew that he was moving to a leading team when he left Brawn in 2010 but didn't really know what was in store.
"You never know what to expect when you change team but I didn't expect it to be like it is here. I wanted to come to McLaren because I knew that they would build a quick car and I wanted to have Lewis as a team-mate."
Button's comments drew praise from McLaren team boss, Martyn Whitmarsh, who saw no obstacles to retaining his driver's services.
"If Jenson says he is totally committed and wants to do x more years, then I suspect that we could quickly come to an agreement," he said, adding, "He's a tremendous asset to the team."
