Audi's new Q3 baby SUV revealed
Audi has released pictures of the Range Rover Evoque-baiting mini-SUV it is set to officially reveal at the Shanghai motor show next week.
The Q3 mixes design cues from Audi's larger off-roaders with the new A1 hatchback, and goes on sale this year.
The 1500kg car will be launched with a range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines all equipped with stop-start technology as standard.
Only one of the three launch engines will be a diesel, a 177bhp four-wheel-drive 2.0-litre turbo diesel. A two-wheel-drive entry-level diesel will follow.
The range-topping 2.0-litre petrol unit will develop 211bhp and be mated with Audi's seven-speed S-tronic gearbox.
The Q3 receives all of the usual Audi refinements – the firm's standard MMI interface will be on hand to control electronic functions like the pop-up satnav system.
A 14-speaker Bose stereo will be an option as well as other fancy extras such as wireless internet capability and a panoramic glass sunroof.
The Q3 should be more pleasant to drive than many of its larger SUV cousins, what with its relatively low kerbweight and compact footprint.
Production begins in June, with sales commencing in the UK around November. Prices should start at around £25,000.
