Is this the best job ever? Sweden looks for 'beach tester'

Updated

A lifestyle magazine in Sweden is advertising for a 'beach tester' who would receive full-body massages, drink wine at local tavernas, read books, and have 'the capacity to rest for long periods of time'.

The job, posted by women's magazine Amelia with the Swedish National Public Employment Service, will involve spending four weeks testing beaches in different locations around the world, according to the The Local.

The ad reads: 'Included in the job assignment is going on outings, lying on beach chairs, drinking wine in local taverns and other ordinary assignments found in a commercial beach and tourist environment. In certain areas, receiving a full-body massage, testing drinks, snorkelling and book reading may be required.'

Sounds tough.

Those applying for the job must be able to swim, be willing to work late nights and 'have the capacity to rest/do nothing for long periods of time'.

The magazine's editor in chief, Asa Lundegard, told The Local that hundreds of people applied in the first few hours of the job being posted.

'The response has been huge,' she said. 'Some people thought it was an April Fool's joke, but it's not. It's a totally real job.

'We wanted people to think it was too good to be true.'

Lundegard said that because the magazine did not have enough reporters to send on the trips, she thought it would advertise for someone to go on the trips and then write about the experience.

'We want the person to share their impressions with our readers - how accessible the beach is, whether it's easy to meet people and other criteria,' she explained.

The successful applicant will be jetting off to Corsica, Cape Town and two locations in Asia to blog about their big break.
