Video: Superbike rider loses rear wheel in freak accident

Plenty of things can go wrong during a World Superbike race, but one of the few things riders probably take for granted is that both their wheels will stay on during the race.

No such luck for Maxime Berger at Donington Park on Sunday. The privateer's Ducati only made it to lap 5 before a defective rim caused the rear wheel to detach at speed.

Fortunately for the 'incredulous' Berger, it happened on a slow speed corner and the rider walked away from the incident. Eurosport's punditry team extend him all the sympathy you'd expect.
