Britain set for 'brolly and sunblock' summer

At first glance, the predictions for summer are a total washout - June is reportedly set for thunderstorms and flash-flooding.

And if the heavy rain isn't enough to dampen your spirits, weathermen also say the summer will be worse than the last two years.

But there is some (sun) light at the end of the tunnel - July is set to get warmer, and August is set to be a sizzler.

The predictions come from independent company Positive Weather Solutions, which claims to be more successful than the Met Office at forecasting weather trends.

Senior forecaster Jonathan Powell said June will see no prolonged periods of hot weather and instead send people reaching for their umbrellas.

He said: 'Summer does not look as good as the last two years – it will be more of a "brolly and sunblock" summer, with a mixture of good and bad weather.

'June will be unsettled as thunderstorms bring warmer periods to an abrupt end, before July improves a little and August offers the best of the summer.'

In fact, forecasters say that unlike last year's dull August, this year's school holidays are set to see the best of the summer, with sunblock a must for those living in the South.

He added: 'Late July and August should offer the warmest temperatures – but the highest recorded temperatures are not under any threat.

'Temperatures in the South will be in the mid to high 20s, possibly edging into the 30s, while the North will typically be in the high teens and low 20s, with higher 20s at times.'
