During qualifying in Melbourne, Sebastian Vettel took around eight tenths of a second out of the rest of the field and comfortably secured pole position ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

As had already appeared a distinct possibility in third practice this Saturday morning, Sebastian Vettel secured pole position for the Australian Grand Prix. The reigning world champion in his Red Bull was in a class of his own and showed the competition a clean pair of heels. Despite making a small mistake on his hot lap, Vettel posted a best time of 01:23.529, and was around eight tenths of a second up on the rest of the field.
