Revealed! Britain's least-punctual airline

Budget airline Jet2.com has just been judged Britain's least punctual airline for the second year running in a new study.

The carrier had an average delay of more than 35 minutes on flights to and from British airports last year, with 15 per cent of its flights more than one hour late.

More than half of its flights failed to arrive or depart within 15 minutes of the scheduled time, the study found.

A total of 35 different airlines were analysed by the website Flightontime.info. It used official Civil Aviation Authority figures

Bmi Regional, a subsidiary of Bmi, was found to be the best performing airline, with had an average delay of 7.1 minutes and 89.7 per cent of its flights arriving or departing within 15 minutes of schedule.

It was followed by Lincolnshire-based Eastern Airways, City Jet and the Belgian airline VLM.

British Airways finished 20th in the study, with an average delay of just over 15 minutes and with three quarters of its flights arriving or departing within 15 minutes of schedule, ahead of Bmibaby (25th), EasyJet (31st), Virgin Atlantic (33rd) and Monarch (34th).

Flybe and Ryanair were the best performing low-cost airlines, finishing 13th and 15th on the list, respectively.

"In terms of pure punctuality, Jet2.com did have more delayed flights than usual during 2010, the year of the volcanic ash cloud and the severest winter since records began," said a spokesman for Jet2.com, speaking in the Daily Telegraph.

'This was disappointing as we always try to meet our customers' and our own high expectations and standards. Unlike many airlines we did not give up and just cancel flights during the severe weather and airport closures. Cancellations can improve your punctuality statistics, but we're proud that we did everything possible to operate our flights in difficult conditions.'
