String vest for tanks boosts battlefield protection

The character of Q on James Bond and his series of unlikely inventions might seem like a fanciful notion, but it seems that army boffins are constantly looking out for new technology.

This week saw a string vest for tanks being shown to defence chiefs as part of National Science and Engineering Week – the Tarian QuickShield is designed to protect damaged armoured vehicles against rocket-propelled grenades.
