Goodwood press day kicks off exciting programme of events
The Goodwood Press Day has become almost as big an event in itself as the must-see occasions that it previews – and judging by the video below, the year's programme looks set to be better than ever.
Lord March, owner of Goodwood, confirmed that nine of the current 11 F1 teams would be present at the Festival of Speed in July as well as revealing other exciting details about the line-up for 2011.
F1 drivers from Jochen Mass to Mika Hakkinen, rally stars like Jimmy McCrae, tintop legends like Anthony Reid and Paul Radisich as well as celebrities such as Yasmin Le Bon and TV chef James Martin were on hand to help Lord March kick the year off too.
Lord March revealed that the theme for this year's Festival of Speed in July would be about celebrating 'the quantum leaps that shaped motor sport'.
To illustrate the theme one of John Barnard's MP4/1 McLaren F1 cars was on display – this was the car that pioneered the use of a carbon fibre tub as a lighter, stronger alternative to the aluminium spaceframe chassis.
Milestones will be noted this year too – Skoda will celebrate 110 years of motorsport activity at the Festival of Speed in July, Jaguar commemorates 60 years since its first Le Mans win and the centenary of the Indy 500 will be marked by the biggest celebration outside of the US.
At the Historic Revival in September, 50 years of the Jaguar E-type will be honoured with a one-make race, a moving tribute will be made to Juan-Manuel Fangio on what would have been his 100th birthday, and 75 years of the iconic Spitfire will be celebrated with the largest gathering of the aircraft since the end of World War II.
Tickets have already gone on sale for the Goodwood events in 2011 and are only available via advance booking.
