Richmond council ditches unpopular CO2 parking scheme

Updated

The council for the London borough of Richmond upon Thames has officially scrapped its controversial scheme that charged residents for car parking permits based on the CO2 emissions of their vehicles.

The scheme was only launched three years ago, but it has finally come to an end and the council has now reverted to a system that will charge residents a flat fee irrespective of the type of vehicle. The new system will charge £90 for a first permit and £135 for a second.
