Geneva motor show: BMW Vision ConnectedDrive

BMW has unveiled the two-seat roadster concept dubbed Vision ConnectedDrive at the Geneva show.

Rather than showcasing future powertrains, the point of the new show model is to explore how cars will make use of networked information – think of it as the iBMW.

Judging from BMW's explanation, it doesn't have a much better idea than us about what that actually means – it says the design "promotes active social exchangement between the driver and passenger". That would be as opposed to talking to each other, presumably.

It also describes the car as looking like it is, "accelerating even at a standstill." To us it looks like a snake that has swallowed a large mammal and needs to sleep – we can't imagine it accelerating at all.

The technical highlights are next-generation 3-D head up display combining basic data such as speed with information about traffic hazards, plus antennae which replace exterior mirrors and transmit information about the outside environment.
