Mazda releases special edition Kendo MX5
Mazda is releasing a special edition version of its MX5 to commemorate the sale of the 900,000th model of the small sports car.
The Mazda MX5 Kendo is based on the SE version of the standard car, and is available in both soft-top guise and hard-top Roadster Coupe format.
They will be available with either Sparkling Black or Dolphin Grey metallic paint, and add a series of other toys over the standard car – a premium Bose stereo, a Bluetooth hands free system and cruise control.
The car will be mechanically unchanged from the standard model, with the soft top getting the 124bhp 1.8-litre engine, and the Roadster Coupe getting the 158bhp 2.0-litre version. Sadly there are no tweaks to the suspension or additions in the form of struts and braces as have featured on previous special edition MX5s. Presumably those and other enhancements will be saved for the special edition to commemorate the millionth MX5.
Just 1,100 of the Kendos will be made – 750 of the Roadster Coupes and 350 of the soft tops. The soft top will cost £19,255 and the Roadster Coupe will cost £23,220. Both will be available to order from March 1.
