Golfers heading to southern Spain can now save £££s

Updated

Thinking of heading off for a round or two in the sun? Well now you could travel lighter and save money on extra luggage charges, thanks to a new service from Clubs to Hire.

Already serving golfers flying into Faro airport in Portugal, Clubs to Hire will open a new shop in Malaga airport – one of Europe's busiest golfing hubs – in March.

Leave your own clubs at home and pick up your pre-booked set on arrival at the airport, avoiding airline charges of up to £80 per return flight, as well as queueing time at the oversize baggage carousel. Then there's added the peace of mind that your own clubs won't get damaged, lost or stolen.

The shop will hire out the latest equipment from well-known names such as TaylorMade and Callaway, including left- and right-handed clubs for women and men. Hire is available from one day to four weeks and costs from about £30 per week for a set.

And the shop is even attracting the attention of professional golfers. 'The airlines are pushing everybody – even me,' said Paul McGinley, Ryder Cup hero and recent vice-captian. 'I'm business class and I'm being charged to take my clubs.'

Look out for further Clubs to Hire shops in other key European golf destinations, as the company is set to expand its operation by the end if this year.
