Brits spend £168,000 on 121 holidays in a lifetime

Think you don't go on holiday often enough? Well, according to a new study, us Brits take around 121 holidays - on which we spend more than £168,000 each - during one lifetime.

Researchers found that between the ages of 18 and 78.5, the average Brit goes on two holidays a year, totalling 121.

And the jet-set lifestyle doesn't come cheap. Each holiday costs an average of almost £860 per person, and another £533 put aside for spending money.

That's a total of £2,784 a year, or more than £168,452 over the average adult lifetime.

The Teletext survey of 3,000 people found that popular hotspots for all that spending included Australia, which is the most popular destination for gap-year travellers as well as those taking retirement holidays. Florida is favoured by teenagers and those with young children, while those in their twenties liked partying in Ibiza.

The favourite stag and hen party destination is Amsterdam, while the Maldives is the go-to honeymoon spot.

Teletext Holidays managing director Victoria Sanders said: "Holidays are increasingly being used to mark important milestones in people's life.

"There are more people travelling for stag and hen weekends, to get married overseas or celebrate 'big zero' birthdays than ever before. An ageing population means that we are travelling for longer and we can fit much more of the world into a lifetime than ever before."

How many holidays do you take a year? Is two too much - or not enough?
