Lotus shows off stripped-out Elise Club Racer

Despite having a multitude of supercar wannabes in the production pipeline, Lotus's latest model is very much a throwback to the 'less-is-more' ethos.

The Elise Club Racer is aimed at customers who prefer track days to Saint-Tropez, and deletes a number of flabby extras like noise insulation, the radio, central locking and even the roof in the name of performance.
The new car weighs in at almost 25kg less than the standard Elise and adds a 'sport' mode to the chassis management system, which permits a greater loss of traction before pulling you back from the brink.

There's also an adjustable front anti-roll bar to be tinkered with, and Lotus is offering an optional power pack which boosts the 134bhp 1.6-litre engine's output to 139bhp.

The Club Racer's asking price clocks in £600 lower than the S model at £27,500. The car will debut at next week's Geneva motor show.
