Sex, booze and laziness: Brits abroad reveal their bad habits

Adventurous sex, provocative behaviour, heavy drinking and general laziness... Brits really like to let themselves go on holiday, says a new survey of British travellers.

According to the new Kuoni Holiday Report 2011, we lose our inhibitions when we're away from home, with more than half us saying we do things that are completely out of character.

For a start we booze more, and women, especially, are partial to more exotic drinks. Apparently, most of us are spurred on by the fact that we feel liberated by being in places where no one knows us.

Alongside this, we dress more provocatively, and expect to have more sex - and in more 'adventurous places'.

Somewhat ironically, fewer women than men questioned maintain their exercise regimes and 21 per cent of those surveyed said they do nothing at all.

However, we're not all embarrassing ourselves all the time. Many of us say we go on holiday to see beautiful places and enjoy a new experience. Older holidaymakers (55- to 65-year-olds) tend to go in search of culture, while younger travellers (25- to 34-year-olds) wish to protect the planet, yet maintain a desire for luxury.

'Times are really tough for most people in the UK at the moment,' says psychotherapist and health writer Christine Webber, commenting on the findings in the report, 'so it's small wonder that people want to let off steam on holiday.'
