Beat the boredom: download these Irish kids' stories for free

Updated

According to the AA, the dreaded 'Are we there yet?' question occurs just one hour and 40 minutes into the average holiday car journey (make that after five minutes in my car).

Well, now those clever people at Discover Ireland have come up with a series of free downloadable fairytale podcasts to keep the kids entertained – whether you're travelling by car, plane or train.

Tales for the Road is a series of four stories exploring traditional folklore – 'Fionn and Una', 'The Greedy Merchant', 'The Magic Pot' and 'Irish Dancing' – all narrated by top Irish traditional storyteller, Niall de Búrca.

They're particularly appropriate if you're travelling to or around the Emerald Isle (pictured) but enchanting entertainment wherever you're heading.

Mother-of-three and designer, Jasmine Guinness, has already road-tested the podcasts. 'As a child growing up in Ireland, these magical tales always filled me with fascination and wonder. Now I can pass them on to my own children, who are held captivated as they listen.'
