Updated

Fiat and Chrysler boss Sergio Marchionne has confirmed that Alfa Romeo and Jeep will share a new compact SUV from next year.

The new model is set to rival the likes of the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. Marchionne claimed 280,000 examples would be built, with 100,000 of those projected to wear the Alfa badge. A spokesman for Alfa said the new model would be based on the C segment platform that currently underpins the Giulietta.
