Hyundai teases new coupe ahead of Detroit

Hyundai has released a teaser image of its unusual new coupe ahead of the car's debut at the Detroit show.

Rather than settling for the conventional two-door layout, the Korean manufacturer has opted to give the new Veloster a single door on the driver's side and two on the passenger side, presumably to allow better access to the rear seats.

Hyundai has dubbed the model a 'utility coupe' thanks to its increased practicality, and suggested it will be priced to compete with the Renault Megane Coupe and the VW Scirocco.

Aside from revealing its party trick, the teaser pic doesn't give too much away about the car's styling, although it is thought to closely mirror the Veloster concept first unveiled in 2007.

The coupe will be offered with two 1.6-litre engines and will be the first Hyundai to feature a dual-clutch transmission.

Expect the Veloster to go on sale before the end of the year.
