Insurers to sue over Toyota crashes

According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, seven insurance companies are suing Toyota Motor Corporation in an attempt to recover money paid to cover car crashes blamed on sudden acceleration.

The insurers claim that if the Japanese manufacturer had fitted an override system allowing the car to idle if the brake and accelerator are pushed simultaneously, 725 crashes could have been averted.
