The fascinating city of Faro is the jewel in the crown of Portugal's Algarve, steeped in ancient Roman and Arab history. The old part of the city is still surrounded by the Roman walls, which date back to the 9th century. The southernmost city in Portugal, Faro city is a must-visit for anyone on holiday in this region, as it boasts something for all: culture, sunshine, history, and some rather good shopping too.
