Gimme a kiss: Mother gorilla's affection for newborn baby

Updated

A tiny baby gorilla has been stealing hearts at Taronga Zoo in Sydney since she was born at the beginning of the year.

And, she's obviously mum's number one too, as Kriba the Western Lowland gorilla was snapped kissing her adorable baby on top her head this week.

The 21-year-old gave birth to little Kipenzi - which means 'precious one' in Swahili - at the end of January. And they've since taken Sydney by storm with their affectionate displays and embraces.

Taronga Zoo is currently home to nine gorillas, and Kipenzi was fathered by 33-year-old Silverback Kibabu.

In total, Kriba has given birth to five babies, and keepers say she's a brilliant mother, protectively carrying her infant around with her wherever she goes.

So cute.
