AA exposes driving test rip-off
The AA has claimed victory after reporting websites to the Office of Fair Trading that charge exorbitant fees to learner drivers to book their tests for them.
The OFT has confirmed that it will be taking action in conjunction with Trading Standards to crack down on the sites, which the AA has discovered charge up to 65% over the standard test fee.
Some learners have been paying £50 to book tests through the websites, whereas booking directly with the Driving Standards Agency requires no fee to be paid at all.
AA Driving School Director, Simon Douglas, said: "There is no place for websites that charge learners huge fees to book their test without clearly explaining those fees. Learners can easily book directly with the DSA for no extra charge. 'Lookalike' sites that rip off learners must be shut down."
The AA recommends that learner drivers should be careful to book directly with the DSA, which charges £31 for a theory test, £62 for a practical test on a weekday or £75 for a test that takes place on an evening or weekend.
