Updated

The presents have been opened, the turkey demolished and alcoholic haze is setting in... but Monopoly boards across the country will be left untouched come Christmas afternoon because apparently we just can't wait to get back to the important business of shopping.

A trend dubbed "Clickmas" could see a record £153 million spent online on Saturday as the bargain-hunting begins. Online retailers have taken to starting the sales a day early and shopping addicts just can't wait to log on.

Not content with the pre-Christmas buying Brits are expected to make five million online purchases rather than settle in for the Queen's Speech.

In fact, internet retailer trade body IMRG expects a £21 million rise on last year's Christmas Day sales total.

Selfridges, Argos, Debenhams, M&S, Currys and Comet are all starting their online sales on Christmas Day and gifted tokens for music, films and books will also form part of the shopping boom.

By Boxing Day, when Brits are expected to splash £300 million in cash, online retailers could be looking at more than £450 million in sales... now that's what we call a Christmas bonus.

But after a tough financial year and snow-related shopping disruption, consumers are ready to take advantage of some seriously slashed prices.

Simon James from moneysupermarket.com, told the Daily Mail: "A unique combination of a challenging year of trading for many retailers is leading to record discounts and frenzied buying."

Frankly the thought of doing anything "frenzied" after a slap-up Christmas lunch, well... it doesn't bear thinking about.
